Our country is yet again stained by the hideous crime of rape. The Hathras Gang Rape has once again put up a lingering question on the “Safety of Women” in India.
- A 19 year old girl was brutally raped on the 14th of September. Her mother said she had gone to the fields to cut grasses and that’s when she was attacked by the culprits. They strangled her to death, leaving her body brutally injured.
- The 19 year old rape victim was first admitted in the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital on 14th september where her health detoriated. She was later transferred to the Safdarjung Hospital Of Delhi on the 28th of September. She succumbed to her injuries and died on the early hours of 28th of September.
- According to Hathras SP, the victim was strangled to death while she resisted their attempt, severing her tongue in the process. Hatras SP Vikrant Vir further said the four accused has been arrested and will face murder charges according to Section 302 of the IPC.
- On Tuesday Morning of 29th of September, when the 19 year old victim had died, Bhim Army Chief Chandrashekhar Azad and his supporters held a protest outside Safdarjung Hospital demanding death sentence to the four rapists.
- Hathras District Magistrate, Praveen Lakhskar, on Tuesday evening stated that the media reports claiming the victim’s tongue has been chopped off as false and untrue. He further confirmed the four accused had been arrested.
- Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the Congress General Secretary, hits at CM Yogi, saying he is accountable for the safety of the women in the state. She alleged that “there is no semblance” of women in Uttar Pradesh.
- The opposition party of the state demanded the prosecution of the culprits in a Fast Track Court
- Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said that the Hasrath Gang Rape case is a shame to the nation and the rapists should be hanged to death.
- Samajwadi Party Supreme Akhilesh Yadav took to twitter to share his outrage on the case. He gave his condolences to the victim’s family. He said there is “No Hope” in the “Insensitive Government”.
- Congress hits at the BJP party and questioned the silence of PM Modi and CM Yogi being mum on the case.
- Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi targeted the UP Government saying “Class Specific Jungle Raj” of UP killed the girl.
- Protests broke out at Vijay Chowk in Delhi demanding the death sentence for the culprits.
- The Vishwa Hindu Parishad also demanded the death sentence for the culprits.
- Captain of Indian Cricket Team, Virat Kohli tweeted saying it was “heinous and beyond cruelty”. He says the culprits will be brought to justice.
- Reports on 30th of September said that the body of the victim was cremated by the police officers in the wee hours of Wednesday against the wishes of her family. The brother of the 19 year old said the family was locked up in the houses and were snatched away the basic human rights of performing the last rituals.
- Priyanka Gandhi Vadra slammed the UP Government on Twitter that they allegedly denied the family their right to ritually cremate their daughter.
- Congress Leader Digvijaya singh tweeted, “In Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi government is completely anti-poor, Dalits and is giving full protection to criminals in the state. In this struggle, all the workers of the Congress, led by Priyanka ji, are with the victim’s family,”
- Actress Kangana Ranaut expressed her faith in UP Government in Twitter that they will bring justice to the 19 year old rape victim.
- Women’s Rights Activists criticized the Government for cremating the body of the victim at night without the family’s consent. She further said, “This horror gives you the full picture of what this crime is all about.”
- Delhi CM Arvind Kejrival was outraged at the way the girl was cremated in the wee hours of Wednesday without the consent of her family. He tweeted the girl was first raped by some demons and then by the system themselves.
- The District Magistrate of Hasrath said the family has been compensated with an amount of 4.2 lakhs. An amount of 10 lakhs will be given to the family soon.
- The brother of the victim has demanded the state government to investigate the matter. He has further asked for security for the family. He doesn’t trust the local police and there should be a judicial investigation.
- UP CM Yogi Aditya Nath tweeted on the 30th September that he had a telephonic call with PM Modi who said strict actions should be taken against the culprits of the Hathras Gang Rape Case.
- CM Yogi has constituted a three member SIT Team to probe the Hathras Gangrape Case. Home Secretary, Bhagwan Swarup, will lead the SIT and DIG, Chandraprakash, and commandant PAC Agra, Poonam, will be its members.
The rape case at Hathras isn’t new, we have been seeing such cases in the past but always the same question will be asked “why rapes are increasing?”. The laws aren’t strict enough to create a terror among these rapists who continue to make India unsafe for women.
